Christian Doctrine Slavishly Bound to a Theology of the Word

Christians don’t just get to make up doctrine and beliefs as they go. As Protestants, deeply committed to a theology of the Word, doctrine must be grounded in Holy Scripture and its reality in Jesus Christ. Good theology understands this. Its theological reasoning processes are attendant to the inner reality of Scripture, which in fact is an analogate of the incarnation itself. That is, a genuine biblical exegesis does its reasoning by closely following the depth contours and teleology of the text of Holy Scripture itself. Anything beyond this, beyond the Word of God, is to adulterate and produce no-doctrines that only can lead people to destruction.
