Introduction

As you enter into the world of Karl Barth’s Church Dogmatics you might be surprised by what you find. A lot of that will depend on the expectations you have or have not already been conditioned by, in regard to who Barth just is; whether that has to do with his “personal life,” or his uniquely Reformed theological offering. As you enter the pages of this e-reader you will be reading along with me, and the commentary I offer as I make my way through the Church Dogmatics. As such, when you take up and read, you will enter at my most recent dispatch with reference to this or that section of the CD. I am currently just at the end of Volume III, almost into Volume IV now (the last volume). So, until I complete the CD, in my read through, this Reader will be updating along the way; from the latest iterations of the CD back to its beginnings in CD Volume I. But let the reader understand, I didn’t really start faithfully publishing passages of the CD until I entered Volume II. Even so, there are still some references to CD I, but this reader really picks up steam at CD II.

Hopefully, as you read the CD along with me, you will have received a good introduction to the CD, in ways that heretofore you haven’t. Maybe someday I’ll see about getting this published as an actual book. But until then, tolle lege.
