Latin ecclesiology and authority is really just the institutionalization of the Holy Spirit. A circumscription of the hypostases of God the Holy Spirit, by the raw claim that an ecclesial institution, based on sociological and legal phenomena—and thus a natural theology—have been given the rite to enclosure the Spirit of Liberty for its own self-acclaimed “Apostolic” purposes. Of course, when the Holy Spirit is contained by such institutionalizing means, He becomes depersonalized, and only an instrumentalized particle by which spiritual authority is presumed upon, by an ad hoc claim to an apostolicity that ostensibly holds the Spirit for its own self-perceived purposes as the one true Church on earth. But this acclamation rings hollow when in fact, the Holy Spirit isn’t allowed to be the third person of the triune God. He is not a ‘particle’ of an ecclesial machine, but the Spirit of God who blows and hovers where He will. Not my will, but thy will be done, Father.
