Reflection on Being an Overly-Zealous Christian sometimes

I have zeal, and I like to think with some knowledge; but man, zeal often gets me into some precarious situations. As most of you know, who have read this blog of mine (wherever the url might be πŸ˜‰ ), my zeal for (or against) Calvinism has gotten me into some hot water at points. And I don’t mean to be trite about this either, my zeal has offended friends of mine; and often times, it is not the knowledge that I have about Calvinism (or not, relatively understood), but instead it is the zeal which drives my communiques, sometimes, that has rightly gotten me into trouble with some. So this is one glaring example, to me, of how my zeal has, at points, carried me to extremes that I really don’t want to be in, or that I would endorse if being less zealous and more careful.

I have had more recent experiences where my zeal has gotten me in trouble; and in these instances the issues have had to do with Christian ethical concerns. Sometimes my zeal gets ahead of where, if in a more sober and careful motion, I really want to be; or at the least, it carries me into deeper waters than I need to be diving into (at least not head first). This is something about me that I know can be used of the Lord for good or ill; my zeal, or passion for theology and the things of the Lord is what drives me to continue studying (no matter what the circumstances of life), and chasing after that sweet taste of Jesus that I have never tired of since I first tasted him. But it is this same zeal and passion, like I have been highlighting, that has more recently gotten me into trouble with people who I love most immediately. So I confess that being overly-zealous sometimes has gotten me into trouble, and has provided opportunities wherein I need to repent and ask for forgiveness. Nevertheless, I still ask that the Lord be my zealousness and passion for life in him; I never want that to wane, even if some of the rough edges that come with that (through my own personality) need to be burned off in the process.

Thanks for continuing to ride along with me, whoever you are.
