There is Hope! Amy Winehouse

I don’t know if you heard, but singer Amy Winehouse died today; she was only 27 years old. I didn’t follow her, but I knew of her because of the various run ins she has had with the media over the last few years. Anyway, I just think it is such a sad thing to see someone so young die so unnecessarily. I am not aware of the cause of death as of yet, but it is probable that it was drug and health related (she had an eating disorder, which is never a good combo with any kind of drug usage, etc.).

As a Christian, can I look at Amy Winehouse, and know whether or not she was “saved?” I don’t really think so (cf. I Cor. 4.1ff). Can I look at her lifestyle, and make the observation that it did not reflect the values that are commended by following Christ? Yes. My point, I don’t know where Winehouse is tonight; only the Lord does. I hope things like this might wake some up to the reality of the vapor-like nature of this life. I hope something like this might cause someone to look at Christ before it is eternally too late! I hope Winehouse by some miracle (which isn’t all salvation such) came to Christ at some point in her seemingly tortured life. We can hope … and not just for Winehouse, but for so many people who live lives that are destructive and apparently hopeless. There is hope, his name is Jesus!
