I just wanted to kind of wrap up my recent spate of posts on Dispensationalism. I may do more in the future on what dispensationalism entails, maybe sooner than later; depends on how I feel at that moment. My views in this whole area have been in transformation for quite some time. As of 3 years ago I was still progressive dispensational, but Β even then there was a seed present that was moving me away from that position. I have since moved to the historic premil position, and that’s where I will most probably stay. I flirted with amil for a bit, but just cannot bite that bullet. I am going to try and talk about other things than this particular issue and science stuff. Probably try to talk some more about something a little bit less controversial; like Calvinism and such π . We haven’t had any good TFT quotes for awhile, and I need to do a long over-due book review of his book “Scottish Theology;” so expect to see that up within a weeks time or so. I know this blog is entitled “The Evangelical Calvinist,” but I also read other things than just Calvinist stuff; so you’ll get other things than that issue from me, as you have been.
Anyway, this is just kind of a tidying up post of sorts. I’ll have something more interesting up later today, most likely.
I enjoyed your posts on this. It got me thinking. I can accept a lot of what PD wants to affirm as long as I don’t find myself affirming multiple (third and fourth) returns of Christ, blank check Zionism, and the dispensational American subculture.
Jacob,
I’m glad those posts were provoking. Yes, I find PD and historic premil very ammenable. Although I would say that historic premil is more flexible in its ability to appeal to theological exegesis, whereas PD is still more operational within a more LGH formed hermeneutical scheme.
A.O. Let me remind you that the early Dispensational and Pre-tribulational teaching was British…the so-called Plymouth Brethren, and guys like John Nelson Darby, and Willam Kelly, etc. And this was well before “Zionism” also. Though they taught that “Israel” would come back to their land. That is really amazing prophetic stuff, since both Darby and Kelly died before the Jews and Israel even stared moving about.
