Trying to Rob Bell

What do you think about this?:

Bad taste, funny, mocking, or marginalizing Rob Bell’s promo video for his book Love Wins! in fruitful ways?

It seems like Christianity often polarizes in either way, in extreme forms; one way or the other. I’m not a fan of Rob Bell’s method or theology, but then I’m not also a fan of mocking someone like this either (since I’m perfect).

If by chance you haven’t seen the infamous promo video from Rob Bell yet here it is (watch it first, then watch the one I have featured above):

  1. You might be right, Bobby, but I really can’t stand Rob Bell’s method and style…so I laughed at the spoof. From what I’ve seen of his Nooma videos, the criticism of “shallow” is spot on. It’s all carefully constructed intellectual styling with little real pastoral insight and guidance. It really should be made fun of. Maybe I’m missing something, but I think he’s doing more harm than good (even apart from the whole universalism fiasco, which is just the latest instance of a larger and continuous problem in Bell’s method).

  2. Kevin,

And I agree with you, full force on both Bell’s method and theology; I think it has real life consequences that are damaging and gut the Gospel of its all encompassing reality in Christ.

At first I thought it was funny, but then I watched it again; and on the flip side, I don’t think mocking Bell proves anymore fruitful and produces anymore light than does Bell’s theology. Like I said, I’m perfect πŸ˜‰ .
