Who’s side is God on? I found myself praying, recently (just earlier today), that the Lord would give me wisdom and insight in the writing of my chapter for our forthcoming book. When I ask the Lord for wisdom and insight, part of that includes the ability to coherently and critically deal with competing accounts in regards to the subject. In other words, I am seeking to show how other well meaning, Lord-loving, Christian brothers are completely or partially in the wrong; both in regards to their construction of the history, and even more importantly the theology. I am basically asking the Lord to sanction me, and my thoughts; and undercut the thoughts and work of these other brothers and theologians.
Anyway, as I was praying like this, it struck me a bit strange. I guess I just think I am right, and they’re wrong; and that the Lord is on the side of right π .
You sound like a normal human being, but with a decent dose of self awareness. π
Hey Tony π .
Interesting thought, Bobby. I had to look up the ref, but it reminded me of:
Exodus 32:26 then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, “Who is on the LORD’s side? Come to me.” And all the sons of Levi gathered around him.
…and the Joshua 5 exchange between Joshua and the “Commander of the army of the Lord” before the taking of Jericho. He apparently wasn’t on a “side”, yet God fought for Israel when Israel did what He said.
If the other theological views of God are incorrect, then I don’t see that it is wrong to humbly ask Him to bless your efforts. The point here is not to cause harm to the other brothers who are sincere and God-loving, but to correct error that interferes with a believer’s understanding of Who God is…correct?
Thank you, Heather!
I agree with you, and I’m no relativist; but I suppose a dose of continual humility is always good in such endeavors π . Which is really to say, Evangelical Calvinism kicks butt π . Sorry for that out-burst . . .
