If you follow the blog here, I’m pretty much going to be quoting and commenting on TF Torrance’s book “Scottish Theology” — which I’m working through for the third time (I just love this book) — so stay tuned; I have other books I’m working through too, but expect to see a post very soon (maybe even tonight π ). I hope everyone knows, by now, that I don’t see Evangelical Calvinism in a sectarian way (but I am convinced, theologically, that it is the best way forward); so if you’re not of the EC persuasion, don’t be scared off or afraid to make a comment — everyone’s feedback is always appreciated (well, usually π ). I am glad to fellowship with anyone who truly names the NAME of Christ; so lets fellowship around His name, and we’ll work out the ‘mechanics’ of what it means to be a Christian through His name, and out of His life, in communion by the Holy Spirit!

I know it’s frustrating!!! The only way I have access is because my alma mater’s library carries it (Multnomah Seminary). I want to buy a copy too, I’m thinking about writing the publisher and seeing if they’ll give me a review copy for the blog here π .
Craig bought a used copy for around $70 from Amazon. It has some highlighting and a few handwritten notes but is otherwise in good condition.

Looks like we paid 49.95 for this used copy plus shipping. I have spent more for text books in my trade, so not a bad investment for a workman who does not want to be ashamed.
I have found it interesting to see that John Knox saw the ascension as one of the key aspects of the Gospel. Still thinking about that one. I deeply appreciate how these men had servant’s hearts. (through Robert Rollok now) Their view of the lords supper has been helpful to me in understanding where the views of some of the older mainline denominations come from.
Neat to see that John Calvin himself thought that all means all.

I really like the ‘ascension’ point, I think it’s taken directly from the argument of the epistle of Colossians and Christ’s supremacy over all of creation. Part of Paul’s argument in Col. is against the Gnostic demiurges (or hierarchy of gods who bridge the gap between man and the infinite); if this is the case then Paul is saying that Christ is supreme over all of creation, even the false gods of the Greeks. In other words, Jesus is God π .
